Oil Strainer Type1

Post by hambone » Wed Jan 07, 2009 3:54 pm

I just noticed that the internal spring in my new aftermarket oil strainer is not there...the metal ring that slips over the oil pickup tube is rigid. Now that can't be good, can it?
Geesh. Guess I'm using my old one. A minor detail but something to look out for.

Any reason NOT to use one's old strainer? Warpage? Moths?

The old stainer should be fine. Just clean it well and check for fit. I seem to remember different size oil pickup tubes. :profileright:

None whatsoever. Long ago there was a an increase in the diameter of the strainer where if you used some earlier engine's old strainer the diameter was insufficient, but that was early 60's. The hole in the middle of the strainer screen is supposed to be 14mm for the later engines. Just check that yours slips over the center pick up pipe with no play but no binding either.

Hiya All,

And while we are on this topic.............

Is there anyplace to pick up a good, new strainer? The operable word in the last sentence being "good". The strainers they are selling around here are so coarse that they'd have a tough time filtering out elephant turds.

It does not have me.

Try OEVeedub. They have a Brazilian one but not sure of the quality. Usually they only sell good stuff.
