How are you fine folks dealing with 300 ft/lbs?
I've come across this:
http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp ... C-C10-7036
Or,
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/d ... mber=95098
(something tells me this tool isn't powerful enuff for the job)
There is the Muir method of breaker bar/pipe, but that doesn't seem very accurate.
The S*mba guys seem to love the Torquemeister:

Re: Gland Nut Torque
I've heard the tool from CIP1 is good. Haven't tried it myself. I'll be ordering one soon to do the rear bearings on my Beetle. I wouldn't trust a Harbor Freight impact wrench. You gotta be careful with what you get from there.hambone wrote:How are you fine folks dealing with 300 ft/lbs?

Their ATV jack is a perfect engine jack though.

If you weight 150-175 lbs, just stand on the breaker bar 2 feet plus a little away from the center with a little tiny jump until you feel no movement.

Hiya Bob,
I used Colin's method above. And I went along with Wilson's advice to use a little Locktite (Blue) on the gland nut threads.Amskeptic wrote:If you weight 150-175 lbs, just stand on the breaker bar 2 feet plus a little away from the center with a little tiny jump until you feel no movement.

I may take you up on that....the never ending engine money pit is starting to tap me dry.
Let me see what happens once I get closer to that point. Thank you!
