Other than what Bus Depot has, any suggestions on winter tires?
I see from a Samba post that Colin said he was running 205/75R14s. That seems like a more palatable option for me, cost-wise.

I suppose I should create a separate topic for this, rather than posting in this thread. I'm thinking about trying out the Continental Vanco 8s. Still not a winter tire, but I probably won't be changing the tires until February.

205 75 14 is too much tire for winter. You want to cut through with less tread area. I'd recommend 185 75 14. I do not know if Blizzaks come in this size, but they are excellent ice/snow tires. The ones on my BMW have withstood 80 mph+ interstate banzais for 4 winters now and have dealt with some hideous road conditions with aplomb.

Not a part, but I had a tire emergency this weekend and Larkin Bros Tires on South Van Ness in San Francisco was the only place I could find that had the right tires in stock.

They were friendly, quick, and told me that they always keep that tire in stock because of all the beater little Toyota pickups overloaded with cardboard or pallets or whatever that roam the Mission District.

The tires we bought were some korean things, but they are 185R14C 1875lb with nice, deep tread. The ride is a bajillion times better than the old tires.

They will also do repairs on valve stems and punctures for like $15.

So if yer travelling through, or live in SF and have an emergency involving tires, stop by Larkin Bros.

I've been driving on the Hankook RA08 195's and have been really happy with them.

I can confirm that Hankook RA08 205/75R14C tyres are excellent too. 8-ply commercial tyres with 11mm tread depth. strangely made the steering lighter compared with the Matador 184R14C tyres I had on before.

I think we have an overwhelming majority here already, but I have to chime in and add my $.02. I just put Hankook RA08 185R14's on my '70 and wow what a difference. I thought I'd notice a difference while driving and I do, but the biggest improvement over the PO's passenger tires is when you're parking! It's SO much easier to turn the steering wheel at slow speeds, it's almost like I gave myself power steering! Unbelievable difference!

I got mine at www.onlinetires.com for $59.00 each. Shipping was very reasonable and I got them mounted locally at Discount Tire, also very reasonable. I couldn't be happier!
