Rear Thing Drum question about grease

Post by amishman » Sat Apr 12, 2008 3:27 pm

1973 Thing Rear Drum question. I am getting close to getting brakes done. Whew! Just one more wheel and the bleeding. Before that though, I need to button up the driver side rear drum. Before slipping the drum back on the axle, do I need to put some kind of grease on the axle and inside the drum hole where the axle pushes into?

I have some remaining grease from my CV Joint work so I could put a little of that on or I have some white grease also. Or is this not needed??

Thanks

tj

I light coating of grease is good. It will make future drum removal easier. Don't get any on the shoes or braking surface. Just on the axle.
