72 Booster
Can't recall if the booster can be removed without removal of the MC? Would like to avoid the need to bleed the fill/system.
I've checked all the lines from the booster back to the engine and they all check out fine (no leaks). Left work the other day and quickly realized diminished brake power and lean condition on my LM-2 when applying the brakes. Not fun having to stand on the brake pedal with no headroom Was about to get onto freeway...could have been worse...much worse.
The booster installed is the original ATE booster. I ordered another http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp ... 11-612-103
It's an ATE German

Re: 72 Booster
I've done it without removing the MC, but I really wouldn't dick around doing it that way again. More work, more hassle, and often the MC fails in a way that leaks fluid into the booster, so you're replacing the MC anyway. Get the knockoff Mightyvac from Harbor Freight -- better than the real one IMHO because it's all metal -- take the opportunity to flush the fluid and put in all new stuff.

a) This may or may not be the booster. All a/f meters would catch a booster's request for vacuum and release of that vacuum to atmosphere. It is a potential indication of a problem IF the lean condition remains as you hold the pedal down. Normally, it is a transitory gulp. Diminished boost without indication of a vacuum leak CAN come from the other side of the booster equation; the atmosphere side. When the brake is applied, it is not just the engine sucking at the diaphragm, it is the atmosphere being allowed to push the other side of the diaphragm (in a VW bus the *front* chamber of the booster. This atmosphere path comes from the driver's side B pillar, through a hose to the pushrod plastic housing, and through a green foam filter that, when it clogs up, kills about half of your boost.
b) Eat yer Wheaties. One in twenty of my peeps is driving around with the booster disconnected for some reason or another. It merely reminds you of 1969 all over again! Step on it, man.

Re: 72 Booster
Already confirmed it's not the atmosphere side of the boost. Clear. If holding the brake down the LM-2 reading will shoot up and hover 30:0-40:0 AFR if held. Let go and it returns to ~13.5 or so LBI. Checked all the lines from boost to engine and they are fine. Even pulled the balance tube and checked it (Passenger side is plugged) Hooked to #3 port on intake manifold (hose is good).Amskeptic wrote: ↑Mon Nov 12, 2018 7:38 am72Hardtop wrote: ↑Sat Nov 10, 2018 4:59 amA) Left work the other day and quickly realized diminished brake power and lean condition on my LM-2 when applying the brakes.

Re: 72 Booster
Got it all apart.
Have not had to add fluid to the reservoir bottle inside (full) but once the booster was off and tipped brake fluid come a rolling out. Damn...WTH...
Oh well back on line for another MC (ATE). Also picked up a MC reservoir bottle for 72 and some grommets. Can't remember the last time I put fluid in the interior bottle quite some time ago. Perhaps the fluid was from the last MC swap ~15 years or so ago.
