Hi.
I'd like some education on how the hydro-pneumatic braking system of the 1981 transporter (& in general) works.
Also, should I need to service my master cylinder, how do I get to it? Do I have to get the whole dash board out?

Sounds like you need a Bentley manual...others can better say how the system works. As for removal of the master cylinder, you need only remove the cover and instrument cluster, then you can reach in from the top. It isn't too bad...

Yes, the four fasteners from above are all that are needed to uncover the works. There should be a plastic cover that comes out carefully, then you can see the fluid level. That's about the only thing you would do without consulting an authoritative text on procedures.

Congrats on the new car!
