Now that I've been driving more often and the winter "sitting for 3 months drum rust" is starting to wear off, the out of roundness is becoming less noticible. Especially after a day of hard downhill braking from higher speed. Didn't squeal at all, until I got back into town weirdly.
P'haps the Colin-sanding method would be a good idea instead of turning.
Does one have to repack bearings afterward? Maybe I could tape up the hub opening with duct tape...

Hiya Bob,

I got the same feel (plus a lot of scrapy grindy kinda noises) on my Bug. It had sat for the better part of a year without an engine. So, I'm guessing that "feel" from unused brakes is not uncommon.

I'm going to sand down my drums after I get the car back from Willy. Definitely mask off the hub. You don't want metal dust getting into those bearings.

Hmmm....I was wondering if it might be possible to reverse the drums on the rear axle so they sat inside out. Car up on jackstands. Start car, put in first, drums rotate, sand drums like on a lathe. Just an idle thought.
