Gum-Out
Where do we like to use Gum-Out? Everywhere? Okay, not on paint, but anywhere else? Any metals it should stay away from? Any rubbers? Plastics? Can I clean my whole transaxle with it? How about inside the bell housing (with the clutch release bearing removed, of course)?

Re: Gum-Out
It evaporates so quickly, I don't think it does any damage on metals or plastic short term.
I like to use it last resort though, and Simple Green 1st if I can. Or just a clean rag or a screwdriver.

Re: Gum-Out
It just so happens that I did hit it with Simple Green first, which did a commendable job. But sometimes I like knowing that I have the nuclear option.

Re: Gum-Out
I've learned not to use Gum-Out to clean the little bits living in the column underneath the steering wheel. Any overspray will leave whitish streaks on the black plastic.whc03grady wrote:Where do we like to use Gum-Out? Everywhere? Okay, not on paint, but anywhere else? Any metals it should stay away from? Re: Gum-Out
This magic elixir is best used on metal surfaces such as aluminum. It is not suitable for plastics that must maintain an appearance. Your best martini ratio is 1:1 shot of GumOut followed by Tanqueray, shaken not stirred, do not use a plastic toothpick.

Re: Gum-Out
If you plan to be working with it in close proximity, I suggest a fan blowing air between it and you in an open area. Or, you, like I did, may experience some light headedness.... And a nasty hang over.

Re: Gum-Out
Perhaps I need a 'Gumout anonymous'-type program. I use it WAY too much, although as noted, not on plastic stuff. I buy it at my local Ace hardware three cans at a time. The last time the checker commented "Wow, you sure clean a lot of carburetors!". I'm convinced he thinks I'm huffing it or something.

Tell him since they don't sell good Mace anymore, you use it for a vicious self-defense for while walking your dog. Then ask where they keep the oven cleaner.

GumOut is second to none with clutch component/bell housing cleaning.
