Cheap, effective hand cleaner
I don't like to spend extra money on things that are only good for one use. For example, hand cleaners that you only use after working on a car. Instead of paying a few bucks for a little container of hand cleaner I use a combination of "Boraxo" powedered soap and Dawn dish soap.
Get your hands wet, put a good amount of boraxo on them, and add enough Dawn to make a good paste. It'll scrub the dirt, grime, and even the sins right off of you!
As I mentioned earlier, these things are multi-purpose. Dawn can be used for regular handwashing and dishwashing. The Boraxo is a great cleaner for dirty pans, and I also use it to cure shrimp and salmon eggs for steelhead fishing.

Toothpaste will work, too. Leaves your hands feeling minty...

I'd try it to see. I use whatever brand I have on hand at the time. Usually paste is a bit better than gel. I usually get Colgate or Crest. I usually use a scrub brush or stout bristle too, but a regular toothbrush can work. It takes a little longer, same effect though.

this is the best soap stuff money can buy anytime anywhere on the planet. its just water, sodium soap, and wood flour. find it at an organic grocer, or write for a distributor. its massive. i found it at rainbow near the fell street ramp in the mission, san francisco. when it was made in that city. i didn't know it was made in oregon now. this stuff should be in every garage, and you use small amounts, bargain!
