It's called "blending" but is done with a sprayer.

Wow - look at that heater box! :drunken:
That box has Rust Bullet on there. Been there for a while. It only got one coat instead of the required two, but it's still holding up nicely. The other side got nothing and is falling apart...

Any updates/luck on getting it a slightly darker shade that is a closer match?

Just curious.

I've had excellent results with Ace paints. I know what you mean about the cure time and narrow recoat time window though.
It's like old fashioned slow-dry oil paint. Once it's dry, it is hard as a rock.

Check your mail! I got a 20% off coupon for any paint product at Ace. So I'll go this weekend and see if I can get a closer match on the color.

Do you have Carquest in CO?
They will scan and match your paint regardless of weather or not it's a stock color code. They put it in a rattle can while you wait.

Nope. Never seen one anyway.

We have them in Fort Fun, and there are a couple in Littleton area (near you):

Didn't know they do paint, that's good to know, Hippie!

Not all locations do. We have 3 or 4 stores in town and only one does the paint, so you have to call first and ask. Or else the other locations will send you to the one with the paint shop.
O'Reilly's does this too locally the same way. Don't know if you have them or not.

I'm on my second can of matched rattle can that I use for touch up. It's very very handy.
They cleaned about a 1 foot square spot of my paint with McGuires cleaner wax, calibrated their fancy scanner gun, put it up to the paint and then took the gun into the store to download the data to the computer. The computer told them it was and exact match for Spectramaster Blue in my case...but even if it was a custom, no-name color mix, the computer tells them what base and tint combinations to use to get a match.
It's really kind of cool!

Hippie,

Did they charge you by the can, or did they give you a pint and put some in the can for you?

Yeah that is cool. I went to Napa but they did it on paint codes so it's not an exact match to my faded incorrect anyway Maaco paint. However it is a very close match to the CORRECT orginal color inside the bus...

They put it in a full sized rattle can for $16.

My Bus has been repainted by a PO, so the color codes are irrelevent for me.
The number tags are missing anyway.

I never made it back to Ace. But I did make a discovery...

My bus is darker and less yellow than Troy's. His has never been repainted.

I did some peeking under the wheel wells, and guess what? My original paint matches Troy's.

Also, my Ace paint is a near perfect match to the ORIGINAL paint!

Groan.

Natch. It always seems to match the wheel wells and under-dash, doesn't it?
:mumum:
You're just doing touch-up and not repainting all of it, right?
You can get a little hobby store plastic modeler's air brush for about $15 that puts out about 1/2 the spray pattern of a rattle can, is adjustable and smooth.
The propellent runs about $10 a can and lasts a good while. You can probably re-tint what you got with enamel hobby paint and keep some in a bottle.
Load the paint cup and spray it on.
Just an idea.

Actually, spot touchups is just a secondary benefit. Primarily, I want to paint other things to match the bus. Like my old beach cruiser and radio flyer wagon.
