Troubleshooting Poll

Post by Amskeptic » Wed Nov 07, 2007 10:01 am

I need to know where to emphasize my replies to various posts asking for assistance.

There is a shorthand version, A

"test relay #87 for 12 volts against ground when energized",

or

there is a longer journey around the physics, B

"your fuel pump is energized by a relay which has a 'request' or 'signal' circuit that is low amperage (lighter wires can be used), and it has the switched circuit which uses heavier wires arriving at #30 on the relay and leaving through #87, to the pump in this case. Start your test at #87 of the relay, this is downstream of the complexity you might like to avoid until you have to go wade in it."

A gives me more time to flit about the forum.
B would require more selectivity as to the questions I answer on a daily basis.

Start with A. If lil 'ol newbie me needs more info, I'll ask: "Uh, thanks Colin. But where's relay 87 and what does it do?" :drunken:

Another vote for "A". As ritter said, clarification can always be asked for...

I think A is the right track, but maybe a bit too brief. I guess it depends on who's askin and the complications of the issue.
I used to follow the Muir list to set my points/timing etc but now just do it.

Why not do "A" with the caveat that there would be a "B" answer ultimately available in the fully comprehesive and finished diagnostics you've finally finished writing and posting. :cyclopsani:

then again, maybe not...It would be cool to have a "need more info? click here radio button." Then a diagram would show up with arrows or something. :king:

OK I voted for A because I don,t want to see you get so overwhelmed you come back with a frustrated "Do a Search" :flower: But Im such a slow learner at times I do alot of reading before I ask.

I wanted to check both "a" and "b" for an answer a little bit in between but alas the function will allow such tomfoolery denying me my libertarian right to be different in all things that I want to be free in while demanding that the always evil "man" provide those things that in my opinion think that should be provided even though they might be an affront to my Ayn Rand-ish outlook on the condition of the world and which phase of the moon we might currently be in.

Whew.

It takes a while to do the prose, so if there must be a choice it should be "a" with "b" option if necessary. Just so long as the words "do a search" are rarely used in this forum.

If I commit to hitting all the forums lightly, if an A answer needs another more explicit follow through, I might not be able to swing back in a timely fashion. You'll have to hound me.

That works for me. A lot of times I just want a quick fix. If it's something I want to understand further I do the research or ask for clarification.
