License plate frames

Post by werksberg » Tue Dec 09, 2008 11:06 am

Are IAC VW owners crazed about having the correct / or a dealer license plate frames from a local former dealer mandate for your ride?

Ed Economy found me a set of Don Burns Porsche as I worked there just after high school...but I haven't got around installing them on any of my cars....maybe my newest buy....'87 Scirocco 16V!

I have reproduce the famous Econo frames since 1995 (sometimes i also do the early Econo Motors frames too)..

But I have a new one in the works...... but it now looks it will not get here until Jan. or so, but the 550 Spyder kit car people will be eating them up.....

I am. I continue my seemingly vain search for Bjorklund VW frames for my Riviera as that's the dealership that sold it originally.

I was fortunate enough to find frames from the dealer in the little town I grew up in. Those are on my bug.

I'd love to see what you've made. Who is Ed Economy?

I've been looking but I think a lot of people ask too much for them so I haven't purchased any. A while back I found an one from an old local VW dealership (Waukegan IL) but it was gone by the time I decided to buy it.

Hiya Werks,

Yup, I'm always on the lookout for a set of frames from Lange Volkswagen in Bellingham, Washington AND a set of frames from Riviera Volkswagen in Portland, Oregon.

I really haven't done any heavy duty looking but I haven't seen any for sale.

I am always looking for one that says "Berkeley - Oliver"

That was THE VW dealership in my home town.

Hiya Static,

***************THREAD ITERRUPTION ALERT*****************

By the way, thanks for your suggestion about stopping by the BusLab in Berkeley for parts. I did so when in Berkeley this past Tuesday and they were nice guys who managed to dig out the parts I needed. Good place!

We now return you to regularly scheduled thread.............

Some guy on TS was liquidating his collection of dealer frames a while back, jillions of them, from all over the country, and we snagged this one, although we doubt Ludwig was sold there:

My last name is Bishop, so I had to buy it. I have the plastic plate too, that is pretty cool. I'm not sure where my rig was purchased.

Well I hadn't even thought about it until somebody on here brought it up.. and of course, I drank the Kool-Aid.

A Portland one would be cool, but I'd like a Gleave's VW. They were the dealership in Medford where I grew up. And where my dad occasionally took his '63 bug.

Hey Werksberg,

What would it take to have IAC Frames?

Phred was picked up originally in San Luis Obispo, CA....To parody one of my favorite quotes:

SLO motion gets you there faster!

I would KILL to have that on a frame for Phred :flower:

I've got a pair of dealership license frames, from Veale Volkswagen/Porsche in Santa Rosa, CA that came on our Fastback. One's still on the Fastback, the other's on the Westy.

Gotta represent the hometown...

Weren't car dealers as "shady slim" back then too? It's a weird thing to adverstise, defunct con men. Maybe VW was different I don't know.
