Part Identification Help: VW #211 857 817

Post by BellePlaine » Tue Oct 29, 2013 6:10 am

While cleaning the garage and organizing VW parts, I came across this black stretchy strap with a VW logo and a part number of #211 857 817. A Google search turned up nothing. I need to know what this is so I can file it with the correct parts.

I haven't the slightest idea what this does.

It's hard to tell from the photo, but it doesn't seem long enough or thick enough for a spare tire strap.

Wasn't there a year of bus that had an uninflated spare? Or it could just be something else!

I think that is an early bus (pre-baywindow) spare tire strap when they were stored vertically behind the front seats.

it is a strap that went on the wall behind the passenger seat in a bay window. there was a small metal hook it attached to as well. the only thing I can think it was for was a map holder.

Thanks everyone for the information. I have the small hook as well and didn't realize that it was went with the strap.

Isn't that the strap that holds up the back of the fold down rear bench seat when it is in the upright position for passengers in a Ghia? Hooks onto the hook on the deck lid over the luggage space. About six or seven inches long as I recall.

Eh, I'm wrong. Ghia one is shorter. I should know better. 211 is bus. Ghia is 144.

Never seen one on a bus. I'm clueless.

I think I have one of those mounted vertically behind the driver's seat. No idea what it's for.
