Mmmmmmmmm camp sausage.....
I once cooked a chicken on a stick over a campfire. Best chicken I ever ate.
What about dutch ovens? I hear you can do some crazy things with those suckers. Anyone have any experience?

How To Cook With A Clutch Oven

Sachs Cinnamon Rolls

Set Ebrake and chock wheels with big rocks.
Start engine.
Engage 4th gear
Rev engine and release clutch until car strains against brake.
Hold until yummy clutch smoke swirls around your head.
Shut off engine and crawl under smoky bus with your cinnamon rolls on a tin foiled cookie sheet.
Lay cookie sheet over bell housing (use clutch cable as a steady)
Wait 5 minutes then remove with pot holders.
Serves 4

Not a meal but just as important...camp coffee made with a french press.

Also a can of sweet corn and some instant mash potatoes are some nice staples to have in the bus kitchen.

Chicken boob with olive oil, rosemary and thyme with a little S & P grilled over some nice hot coals.....oh so nice! :bounce:

We should break this down by year of vehicle, I got the icebox in the 73 westy, I mean it might be cold, it might not....

On Colin's note: I did read something where they were frying eggs on the engine....Mmmmm.

This is how Army truck drivers lived on their "redball" missions in WWII, they would set their canned rations on top of the 800 series engines (these things needed to be double clutched BTW that is how I learned) and drive and drive and drive...when they got to where they had a chance to even take a piss, their rations would be warm.

French Press is very nice. Also Mate tea, gives ya a nice kick for a day of High Adventure!
What about Hobo Steamers? Chopped meats/veggies whatever, seasoned and olive oiled, wrapped in foil and tossed in the embers for about 45 mins. Best served on a section of 2x4. Try it, it's good.

Chicken on a Stick was about 10 years ago, but those Hobo Steamers on a 2x4 are damn tasty ya gotta try it!
I usually stock up at Trader Joes before a trip, so we eat pretty well. Sometimes too well! And don't forget the beer...

so our camp meals this past weekend:

Saturday night
cheeseburger's (OMG was this recipe good, never would have thought to put milk in a burger) with some potato salad
Sunday breakfast
Breakfast burritos with sausage egg and cheese, hashbrowns and mushrooms

we only ate twice but had beer all day :) then we went to a mexican restaurant on the ride home where this kids in a volvo thought it was way too cool to see 3 westy's traveling together. We also passed another bay window bus in the mountains of north carolina.
