Itinerant Air-Cooled

I got the latest issue of Volkswagen Camper & Commercial magazine ("The original and best VW camper magazine" according to their front cover banner) and was pleased to find this on page 16:

My only gripe was that it made it seem as if I am habitually reaching for the AAA card instead of the tool box nowadays. The truth is that I haven't made a service call to AAA in something like seven years, when my starter crapped out, and that was only to get it into my driveway at home so that I could swap out the starter myself. But hey, it was a generally good review in a big magazine, so I shouldn't complain.

Hard to say. When I get my royalty reports at the end of the month, I'll know better but for now, there's no way to tell.

Having gotten my financial report, I think I can assume that I have sold exactly three more copies than usual in the UK.

Yup.

John, I didn’t want to clog up your technical thread regarding your recently-eliminated bucking issue, but I DID want to ask if you have read Jonny Bock’s book, “A Bus Will Take You There”? I leant out both my copies and only got one back. It seems to be a third book in your exceptions of books about VW buses, though the author only deals in pre-67 models.

Fortunate for me, I was able to lend one copy to an invigorating young woman who I shared a campsite with last week, and she leant me HER copy of your book so I could continue reading it where I left off on my personal copy which is in storage at the moment. Apparently ISP West is selling copies of your book? :) They have been excellent in procuring necessary Type 3 parts, so hopefully they can contribute to your sales!

Yes, I've read the book. I borrowed a copy from Joe Erlich (AKA Static) many years ago. I've tried to get in touch with Johnny about doing a book trade but I don't have any contact info for him.

Johnny's book was more about the adventures he'd had with the bus, and the people he'd met, IIRC. Not much talk about distributors or roadside maintenance, though, which is one of the things I wanted to highlight in my book, because that's as much a part of the VW experience as touring and schmoozing, At least for me.
