Seems like a nice enough guy. His implication that an '87 Syncro is air-cooled is troubling though.
Ludwig--1974 Westfalia, 2.0L (GD035193), Solex 34PDSIT-2/3 carburetors.
Gertie--1971 Squareback, 1600cc with Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection from a '72 (E brain).

I don't think he's as interested in pedagogy or theory. Shame, because that's far more useful in the long run.

But dang Bill, it's on here for scrutiny less than twelve hours after posting? ;)

Listen, keeping everyone current with up to date information in this fast changing VW world of ours is important to me Mister! lol

On a serious note; if he's competent in working on these old VW's and can help owners keep them on the road, power to him. I initially wondered if there were really that many air cooled VW's left in his area. One trend I've seen in my parts restoration business is that I sell and ship lots of restored Pierburg fuel pumps and Bosch distributors to that part of the country. Virginia and Maryland have been a frequent shipping local.

Time to hire him and see how he does. I'll pretend that I am a newbie. I'll pile on the every stressful moment that I have learned in the past fifteen years. I will make my VW play sick in a horribly subtle and hidden way. And I will break his soul. Cuz this is AMURica.
