As I told on another thread, I had a wee spot of trouble while traveling to Buses By the Bridge this year. Here's the whole sordid story:

Great story! I think we have all had issues on the road that led to self repair or the help of others, including shops that will still work on ACVW's. My 65 Bug died in traffic on the way home in traffic on the highway. My brushes were so worn, so I stuck cardboard under the springs to get me home. Been there, bought the T-Shirt!

I did a little editing on the article, after I realized that I'd left out another "incident" on the way down there. VWIW, the new alternator seems to be playing well with others.

Great story, JLT. Sounds like you handled the challenges with a calm demeanor and enjoyed the adventure. For me, this is what driving a bus is all about.

Thanks! You're right about needing that sort of attitude when driving a bus, particularly on a long trip. "It is what it is," you say, and then you roll up your sleeves and get out the flashlight or the tools.

I think John Muir understood that. There are a lot of "Don't panic!" admonitions in his book ... and he was writing at a time when most of these cars were less than twenty years old.
