You may be interested in this podcast interview of Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield. He just spent 166 consecutive days in the International Space Station.

Superb! Thanks so much for that, Westy.

Two takeaways from this interview:

"Launch is like being in the jaws of a dog"

"It's always easier to believe in something than it is to understand it"
"This war will pay for itself."
Paul Wolfowitz, speaking of Iraq.

You guys ever hear of Space Brothers? Japanese anime, really great stuff. Pretty slow moving, but not for kids! I love it! And accurate too.

Crunchyroll has them online, or Roku whatevah.

I can't even imagine pulling those high Gs on some of the reentries. His take on ETs was interesting too.

It is going to take all night for this thing to download here in Pensacola, but I did catch the initial Apollo 8 footage, that first view of Earth in color (had to wait for Newsweek Magazine because our little TV was black and white only). I remember being triumphant inside . . . triumphant because I knew deep down that Earth was going to be so much more beautiful than any of my stupid books could ever illustrate. I loved that. Even as a guarded child, those first photographs moved me to tears.

And me, then. They still can.

You're close. Drive across FL to the Kennedy Space Center and visit the "Rocket Garden". There, among other cool stuff, they have a Saturn 5, fully assembled, stretched out along the ground. "Awesome" doesn't begin to cover it.

The engineer in you will tear up, I guarantee it. Especially when you see what a "turbopump" looks like.
