Scrubbing Photos

Post by locoqueso » Mon Jun 24, 2013 5:50 pm

I've taken up photography as a new hobby. I'm still trying to figure out what I'm doing behind the camera so I rely a lot on Photoshop to clean up my work.

Here's a picture that I took a while ago of a big, red barn in Wisconsin...

This is a Before and After comparison of the stuff I scrubbed out of the final image...

I consider it a challenge to remove unwanted junk from my photos. I try to clean it up enough where the viewer will look right past the edits. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't , but I'm happy with this one.

Excellent work. But be careful, when people know you can do this, they'll either never trust your photos again, or want you to scrub their photos. I've experienced both.

Good 'shopping locoqueso. I've used photoshop since version 3.0 and I've come to the conclusion that PS is nearly as important as the camera itself.

I think that I learned Photoshop on version 5 about 20 years ago but I only recently started to take my own photos. I rely heavily on the clone tool and layers to clean stuff up.

I have OCD so I'll sit and tweak pixels for hours. It can be mentally exhausting but I love it.

Shooting raw? Tried Lightroom?

No I haven't tried it. I've heard of Lightroom but never checked it out. I just assumed that it was a scaled back version of Photoshop but after reading up on it I now realize that I was mistaken. Thanks for the tip!

If you're shooting raw, you'll love it.

Reviewing your work on the little house - that's not a "good" job, that's a superb job.
