Someone in Portland with a Welder?

Post by hambone » Mon Apr 15, 2013 10:28 am

Can I bribe one of you suckers to come over in the next couple weeks? Bug's door needs a couple tack-welds at the lower outside door seam, and I don't have a welder. Maybe that should be my next purchase?
Thank you! Most of the body work is done otherwise.

You're are welcome to bring the bug out to the shop and do it there.
My welder is not so portable.

Bug is in a billion pieces right now, the welder would have to come here unfortunately. Thanks for the offer though.

Pics of the problem area? I've gotta pick up my welder from Justin but otherwise it should be no problem as long as we get to it *before* Cinco De Mayo. Mine's portable and 110V...

Decent welders, even little ones like mine, aren't cheap. Around $450-500 unless you find a decent used one. Stay away from the HarF units, they're crap for this kind of work...

Good to know, I was considering HF.
No pics. It's near the lower door hinge on the outside, that vertical metal rib that goes top to bottom. It is loose near the heater channel.
Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to weld up that strut tower with a patch, but I am hesitant to blow up th works.
Are you free in the next couple of weeks? Shouldn't take too long really and it's the last big task I have left.

If it's just the door...why don't you remove it and take it to the available, not so portable welder?

On the body, not the door itself.
