Now that is an idea! I have always wanted to learn welding. I could make roos, luggage racks, anything else?

everyone at the campout seems to like it... it's REALLY simple to set up... from the time you take it out of the bus til the time you are in it is about 5 minutes... it looks a lot more complicated than it is! I initially tried one from target that was the same price (the coleman store is an hour away)... but it was junk... i took it AND the tent i bought from target back the same day... one of the tent poles bent while i was setting it up! I still havent decided on a tent... i need one to use with my beetle at car shows too... like this weekend while i am baking in the sun at the orlando show :pale:

I haven't decided what to be when I grow up - put 3 years into Graphic Design at Oregon State University, and decided I sucked at that particular art application (should've just finished up in Geology or Hotel and Restaurant Management). I'm certainly well rounded work experience-wise, I can teach you how to sail, how to pick a lovely diamond, run a restaurant, an Ophthalmology office, a dental practice, I can make you some lovely vintage-style cowboy/cowgirl luggage or lampshades, grow and sell you my christmas trees, harvest filberts (not quite a master gardener, but working on it), decorate your house............ :bounce:

Bachelors degree in computer information systems in 85 from Western Michigan University...spent 10 years or so in the computer field...now I get paid to tell people where to cast and when to set the hook :geek: . And, manage the restaurant, staff, do all the accounting for the business, and work part time during the off-season encouraging high school kids not to buy a restaurant  And, best of all, arrange the best damn VW gathering in the Pacific Northwest!!!

I have an undergraduate degree in Architecture (Ir., which stands for "engineer" in Holland), but no real talent in design, so I came to New York and switched careers.

Got a Ph.D. in Public Administration at NYU. Opened a lot of doors. I am a big believer in finishing one's education. It took me 13 years start to finish (after high school), but I believe it has been worth it. :geek:

I love reading stuff like this Covelo. It's inspiring to me. I first attended college in 1977 - a yr after high school and then proceeded to go off and on until a 25 yr career that is no more & life sidetracked that until 2006 when I returned full time. Rather than get caught up in the vast spance of time, I just focus on the prize. It's what keeps me going!

I started out at my hometown school, Iowa State University in 73-75 in Political Science-Pre-Law. Interesting and fun, but I am allergic to corn pollen and fell in love easily. Moved out to Utah through an interesting tour in my 62 beetle, and played in the mountains mostly.

Met my (now) wife and put her through school for a few years, got married in 84. Graduated from Utah State University in Geology in 85. License to be a tourist. Moved to New England in 85 and have been here ever since. Was a surveyor, soil scientist, consultant. Got bored. Cioonsidered law school but realized it would not make me happy. Now (since 94) I work for the state in environmental protection doing various solid waste things... landfills, benefical use of wastes, tires, things like that. Love it. Always interesting, lots of problem solving, never boring. Even though I have to say "no" sometimes, I can usually convince the customer that "no" really is the best answer. I bought the bus more for a fun thing to play with, than to go anywhere, but I do love a good road trip.

My wife graduated in Watershed Science (sort of a hydrologist/soil scientist) in 84 (she is the smart one) and finally went back to get a MS in Oceanography in 2000 ('cause she always wanted to). She works for the same state agency and plans for oil spills cleanup in the water.

College is not for everybody and not everyone excels at it (including me). Even though it was a ton of work doing it and paying for it, I loved every minute of it (even though I got a D in "Art for Football Players" 101 :pale: ). I got to learn a lot of ways to look at various issues from a variety of viewpoints and learned how to help find solutions for problems with people that I didn't use to know. Plus I Love to look at wierd things, meet interesting people, and have fun.

I am a drop-out flake from U.C.L.A.
Started in pursuit of a BA in Psychology at U.Conn Storrs in 1977.
Dropped out in 1979 and became a high school teacher in Boston for one year (International Relations as part of their social studies requirement).
Went to Arcosanti (Cordes Junction AZ) and learned heavy construction, bending r-bar and pouring foundations.
Then went to work for my uncle at his classic car restoration shop for three years. Left because serving the rich and their playthings was getting extremely annoying.
Put together a portfolio and was accepted into the transportation design department at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena CA. Chose not to go after speaking with other students about the intense pressure.
Opened up my own mobile BMW repair business in L.A. Loved it.
Matriculated to U.C.L.A. to continue my studies in psychology. Started an individual major open to honors students and took a wonderful series of Honors Collegium classes, this was my real liberal arts education. Individual major exploded in its third year due to overwhelmingly huge breadth of thesis. Ducked back into psychology. Enjoyed student teaching and doing community outreach into local halfway houses. Joined Ivar Lovaas in his autistic children behavior modification project, loved the clinical work. Found out that I enjoyed the art of working with people but hating the statistics and DSM III/IV labelling and journal protocols. U.C.L.A. psychology was trying to cram itself into a hard science box.
Escaped in 1987 and went back out into the sunshine working on BMWs and VWs.
Started my own appliance service business on a dare in 1988 and enjoyed a capitalist pig period terrorizing the city. I loved making money and meeting people. Bought a brand new Vanagon GL, an old Porsche 911 and then another one, bought a BMW 630CSi, a Mercedes 380 SEL, a '65 Mustang 289, and still I was restless. Went to a family reunion in '92 and met byproxy who took a fancy to me. Moved to Rochester NY and started service business there, " I'll show 'em how it's done!" HA! They showed me a thing or two. Eight years later, I shut it down and went to work for the White Man in HVAC. Quit five weeks after my Big Promotion.
Went out into the sunshine working on VWs all across the land.

See a pattern here? I won't commit. Life is too huge and too exciting.
But now I am old. So I am transitioning to the drawing board, no trend-setting transportation design stuff, just a mellow romp through old VWs.
Colin
