I love sports. Love to watch 'em, love to play 'em. Depending on the day and my schedule, I usually play one of these at lunch:
soccer
basketball
flag football
ultimate frisbee
floor hockey

I'm lucky in that my workplace has the facilities to accomodate such activities.

I'm a Yankees and Steelers guy. When I was growing up in NC, we didn't have any pro teams in the state to root for. In the late 70's when I was old enough to pay attention to sports, the Steelers were dominant and I thought the black uniforms were cool. Now we've got the Carolina Panthers, who I like to see do well, but I'm still a Steelers fan. Got into the Yankees after I started reading historical books and articles (even as a wee lad I was quite a bookworm). Guys like Ruth and Gehrig seemed almost mythical figures to me, and I got hooked on the aura of the pinstripes.

I will watch dang near anything sports related except womens basketball (although I like womens soccer better than mens).

One of the bloggers I read posted this a couple of years ago. Sports royalty- kiss the rings! :king:

No team in American sports is paid attention to like the New York Yankees, and it's not even close.
I read and hear stuff like, "It can't be any fun to be a Yankees fan, because they always win." That's usually followed up with a rag about how they haven't been winning, at least in terms of World Series titles since 2000, when they polished off a run of four in five years.

Yeah, sucks to be us! But you know why it's fun? Because everyone cares.

The AL-record 4,090,440 fans who showed up at Yankee Stadium this year, at an average of 50,499 per game, cared. The ML-leading 81.9%-full road stadiums when the Yanks came to town cared. There's nothing in sports like it.

Notre Dame has a similar caché in college football, but that sport doesn't grip the nation like Major League Baseball, which set another attendance record this season. Most people who admit to hating the Irish probably can't name more than three current players. Hell, no more than the coach, probably. However, most people who hate the Yankees can probably name at least five of the 10 players making at least $10 million this season.

The Los Angeles Lakers? The Dallas Cowboys? You can combine the nationwide press those high-profile franchises get, and it would total a fraction of the columns written about the Yankees.

If you're a Yankees fan, you're part of sports royalty. The pinnacle of American sports. There's no one challenging that perch atop America's sports consciousness. That's why it's fun.

I have played and loved baseball all my life. Was giving a Louieville slugger at the age of 7. (WOOD) Played catcher in HS and also a bit of golf- same HS Tiger Woods went to yrs latter--lots of stories 'bout that not important. Played soft ball womans legue on Island I lived on for 10 yrs

I have always played tennis and fell in love with Andre Agassi from day one and have never missed any match. Have been eating Strawberries and Cream at every match. Hate the sounds of the grunters on tv and mute them. Only watch the best of the best in any sport on tv. Love the Super Bowl woop-t -doo and commercial aspect. Thought Prince was too funny with his falic shadow guitar. Let the games continue on any land, anytime and anywhere. It is human nature.

i heard how some communities are rising to challenge the legitimacy of aluminum bats, in most cases having them banned from kid-leagues. apparently studies show a substantial increase in velosity of a ball hit with that crep. its screwed up, but i am still one of the folks who believe the designated hitter ruined the world so what do i know. play the field - no specialists.

Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees (my dad is a huge fan - that's how I started liking the Yanks, but the Cubs are my all-time favorites), Chicago Bears, Durham Bulls (AAA minor league baseball team here in NC), & the Carolina Hurricanes.

Oakland Raiders... Hope we can't get any worse than 2 and 14 last year! I guess it could have been 0 and 16 <grin>

I need to stop watching sports though as it gives me an ulcer with the way my teams play. hehehe
