You're worried about less than 20 revs per mile?

Great info Randy.

Take a rest Don.

I've had my bus loaded down like that many, many times Colin.

It LOVES being loaded. I dunno why but it drives great like that. Smooth and steady... and slow.

I once hauled the entire contents of a Porsche 914 minus the actual body inside my bus. Car in Car. Girl on Girl. VW busrepairman on...

VWBusrepairman wrote:Per Randy's recommendations, this is what I've found out, cost per tire:

High Speed $123.76, one in stock, 8 ply; Cooper Discovery
Hoosier Tire $116, one in stock 8 ply; Cooper SRN
Petro's Tire $150.88, 3 in stock, 6 ply; Goodyear Wrangler

I can see whay people cut corners in the past with a p-tire, but I'm still going to check a few more places. I only budgeted about $300 for a set of tires...might have to sell another engine or something to fund some sexy tires.
It is your call here, but what I would do is say to the manager/owner of each store. Lots of times the "sales guy" is not able to negotiate much when it comes to price.

"I see on the Hancook website that you guys are all able to order up the Hancook RA08. I can buy the Hancooks 195R14 at Bus Depot delivered to me for $X. http://www.busdepot.com/details.jsp?partnumber=RA08195
But I would rather buy them from you (since you are local Hoosier guy), if you can get close to that price of $89 a tire. I won't need them for about 10 days or so you can order them up. What can you do for me?"

See what happens.

1,100 miles from Atlanta to upstate NY, my welcome committee rustled up some stiff winds and 25º snow squalls. This bus is easily the nicest cargo hauler I have ever driven, fully-loaded it was a pussycat, beautifully balanced, quiet cruising, effective brakes, less wind wander, excellent heat and 18.7 mpg at an average speed of 65-70. I will miss the quiet when I unload it. No audible camshaft clatter for the first time with this rebuild. Great cars these buses.

Glad you made it ok.
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue, I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace. Where never lark, or even eagle flew. And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod, The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

I prefer releasing the "load" and with that, this is yet another tribute to the legendary Bottomend.

I still need some damn tires!

I know nothing about these guys but go to the site and plunk in 195R14 and click the "C rated tires for commercial vans" box.

http://www.tires-easy.com/start.html

4 Hancooks in 195R14 are $253.80 plus $57.50 to ship them to 47401.

I'll vouch for 'em. I ordered 4 from this site about 4 months ago. Delivered to my door. Mounting was $20/tire at the local shop including disposal and new stems. I like 'em. They really made a radical difference in handling over the rotting passenger tires that came with the bus.

Thanks, kindest of sirs. I have a local shop who installs tires for me, though the zipcode is 47403- not too far from 47401.

Since I sold the '66 Ford yesterday, I have freed up some funds for tire purchases...I am down to one VW and one Dodge truck and no junkers!
