Y'all should know I had them delete this sister thread over at TS because they moved it to off-topic and deleted my links to it.
They don't need this info, I fugure.
Asked them to finally cancel my membership 'cause they (the mods) P me off so often.
Geez now I'm down to only about six other forum memberships that I like better. =D>

Thought you all might want to know that the Bus size K&N oil filter, HP-2004, now I tested it three times cleaning the element with kerosene between and it's filtering as good or better than the M1, and almost as good as the PureOne every time. I think something was leaking in the first one I tested. Maybe a tear in the paper.

I swear it's amazing TS is such a cool site considering how boneheaded the folks who run it are..... I quit going there long ago when Colin quit....but as of lately have been going back for Thing info as Thing owners here dont exist....
Take care,

The bypass valve is there to allow oil to bypass the filter element if it should become clogged, or when the oil is still cold and thick.
This of course prevents oil starvation during running.
Since the Mann and Mahle filters have a pretty flexible spring holding the filter element to the threaded base plate, I believe this might be their version of a emergency oil bypass arrangement. I still prefer the dedicated bypass valve that the M1 has.
Could his have caused my extreme pressure and leaking out the bell housing?

No. It would starve the engine for oil.
The Bay T-4s have the bypass built into the engine like many GMs, so the filter doesn't require one.

Hi,

I am currently in Colombia and trying to get some new filters for my 82 aircooled vanagon.

I have two mann filters w920/17 left but I am looking to get some more spares.

Firstly, can the filters be re-used?

Secondly, I found someone selling the Mann w920/7 in Ecuador (on my route). The specs are compared below.

In a dire pinch, the Ford FL1A will also work on a T4 engine. It hangs half a centimeter below the lowest part of the engine, so NO off-roading. But if you have removed and trashed your last filter, the FL1A is one of the most common filters in the world.
