Welcome, thanks for reading that mess...
But the engine does run well. Just have to pull it soon to retorque everything and fix some nagging oil leaks.
(The bumper isn't that exciting, $20 pounded out dents with a hammer then Rustoleum.)

Engine it out! Not bad, took about 3 hours including prep and bumper. I took my time, enjoying the winter project again. It's nice to be useful.
Bell housing wet with oil...
Also some oil leaking out where the cylinders mate the case. Not too bad but noticeable. Wonder if it has something to do with incorrect torque now at the heads? It's a quandary, if I loosen the heads to deal with it, then I may have to pull the engine again to retorque again since it's already somewhat tight and settled in. First 4 fins closest to the case are wet.
Oil cooler looks dry.
Oil coming from either the oil pump or the oil slinger on the pulley. Trying to deal with it while keeping the exhaust in place. That's a whole other kettle o' fish.
All and all, dry above and oily dusty down below. Can't believe the engine has 6000 miles on it, it looks grubby already. That's what you git with a workin gal.

Anyone wants to stop by tonite, I'll be in the garage light wrenching and drinking beer. I smell like gasoline tho. I could use the advice.

Other way around. As the engine settles, the clamping torque drops. Do what you have to do, retorque to spec, you'll be fine.

Yeah except I retorqued the lower nuts to spec over the summer. So if I loosen them, then tighten again, aren't I back to square one? I guess it's all arbitrary until time and use take place.

Head torque is below 10 ft/lbs...probably accounts for the leakage.
Also looks like there is a moderate flow coming from the shimmed crank pulley due to that kooky 1/4" offset. Not a damn thing I can do about it, except maybe a sand seal some day.
Possibly some coming from under the oil pump cover.
Main seal is definitely leaking, and possibly the galley plug too. I'm gonna JB it Colin-style to be safe. I'm also going to use those kooky double main seals, can't hurt.
I think I'm going to take a gamble on the the cylinders, just clean up the area best as I can and retorque the heads without pulling the works apart, with the hope that the retorque will stop most of the oil seepage from the cylinder/case area. Everything just seems so nicely settled in to pull it all apart... Unless someone objects of course.

Is it OK to tighten up the case nuts that you can reach? A couple are buried under the cylinders. I sure don't want to pull out the works, especially since I just retorqued the heads.

I did this and imagine it can't hurt. It's probably a good idea to periodically check all your nuts (a-thank-you!) and bolts. No really, you probably should give them all a quick check. I know a lot of mine were off after my rebuild.

let me know if you want some help this week!

Most of the tin is back in place. Does anyone have time this week to stop by and help me hold the engine down whilst I torque? Also need to move the engine into install position and can't do it alone. Thank you, shouldn't take long.

Great! Are you free tonite or tomorrow nite?
It's a long haul for you out to NE though...maybe I should bug one of the goons who are closer? It's only 10 minutes of work.

Should have the rest of the topend back together tonite.
