Is there a relatively easy way to adjust the idle and mixure on
my 77' 2.0 FI.Once warmed up, the idle speed is running @ 1200, plus
I'm not sure on the mixture.

It is exceptionally easy.
Find the big brass screw to the right of the throttle lever.
Turn clockwise to reduce idle speed to 1,000 rpm or less.

Oh but it won't drop down low enough and the screw is bottomed out?
Check timing for 7.5* BTDC.
Still won't go low enough? You have unauthorized air entry coming past the throttle plate.
Check auxiliary air regulator for any air passing through it after the engine is fully warmed up.
Check decel valve for correct closure.
Bentley has procedure.

Mixture can be adjusted by the screw on the air flow meter. Clockwise makes it richer, counter-clockwise makes it leaner.
Things get more complicated quickly if engine does not respond.

"Things get more complicated quickly if engine does not respond."
Can you say potentiometer? :flower:

About a year ago I had to take my throttle body off because the idle adjustment screw would not do anything.......cleaning it all up made everything go back to "normal".

Mixture needs to be checked by a CO 'sniffer' at your favorite local VW shop...or anyone that has one and knows how to use it....
