Yahoo - I passed my emissions test

Post by Mr Blotto » Thu Sep 14, 2006 7:29 pm

Well, took the beast in for the Illinois EPA emissions test and passed :bounce: .

Here are the results for anyone that cares:

(Test was at idle)

Hydrocarbons - 116 ppm (standard is 700 ppm)
Carbon Monoxide - 3.6% (standard is 7.0%)
Carbon Dioxide - 6.2% (no standard)

I am good until 2008!!!!

Congrats.
I can't believe they make you test vintage though. I doubt vintage motors are smogging up the windy city.

Congrats!
Last year was the last for the E-Check here in Kentucky. They finally did away with it. It was a rather corrupt system anyway. If you failed 3 times you could pay like $250 and they'd give you your paper to get tags anyway. It was like legal extortion. They failed me for improper idle twice in 2 different vehicles. Both times it was purring along at 800 RPMs. I refused to pay the $250 and would come back the next day with the idle turned down and give them their $25, go back home and re tweak the idle.
I understand the idea behind the whole deal but in this case it wasn't helping anything. It started with good intentions but became a joke pretty quickly.

I hear ya - the whole thing is a scam. I think they really should be going after Industry, not 30 year old vehciles that are lucky just to be running...

That's AWESOME!! You should treasure all those original parts, your original engine still has a possible lifespan of at least 25 GEX rebuilds =D>

Did you pass that test at night?

I've heard that the nocturnal emissions are the best.

Hey Blotto - the guy at the ILL emission office told me to register the vehicles as antiques. No emission testing, and they don't check milage. Plus, it's a bit cheaper to register...

Yea, I was think of doing that, but "technically", you are then only supposed to drive your bus only to and from auto shows (yea like they could ever enforce that anyway..). Didn't want the hassle.

I felt bad for even thinking about it, but when the guy at the testing center is telling me to do it...
