Any idea where these leaks are coming from?

After I gave my underside a bit of a wash I can see better 2 spots (I'm sure there are more) where the oil is dripping. The first one is up front - weird spot - is that brake fluid? it's not really dripping, but it doesn't look like somewhere oil should be!
the second is the the bigger drip... it appears to come from just above there (pardon the terms...) between the silver part and the black part and drips off that rectangular bit.

Anything obvious to you guys what it may be?
Love your bus.

The oil pump is right above your oil leak...

I don't know what the front axle drip is.

I believe the front axle leak is just old grease whose oil has separated out and is seeping. Isn't there a grease fitting there?

I would say that's nothing to worry about.

When was the last time that steering damper was replaced????

the engine leak is from the oil pump most likely. The other are just lube holes. You should fill those up. Probably hasn't been done in 20 or 30 years. It's on my list for Colin's vist. General Lubrication, Toe & Camber and Rear Sag.

yeah, my friend at dinner suggested the front one was a lube port...

is it a big deal to fix a leak at the oil pump? what would I have to do?

Nice bus BusBerd! looks just like mine!
Love your bus.

There are many leak opportunities there in the back of your engine. I would vote for oil pressure switch or possibly oil filter mount.

Well, you can't tell by looking. Does your steering wheel tug at your hands when you hit a bump, especially while turning a corner?

If so, the steering damper is likely to be worn out. You can remove it easily and check it by hand. If you can compress and extend it easily and quickly, it's worn out.

I've never driven another VW, but it seems to drive fine. No shaking on the wheel!

Thanks! I took that pic on while camping at Lake Cowichan on Vancouver Island. I highly recommend it there! I'll post some more pics (but not right now, I'm itching for some breakfast!)

I'll look up all those locations you guys have suggested (oil pressure switch, filter mount, oil pump) and see if I can figure out how to fix them if it is indeed one of those places...
Love your bus.

you might want to get the lower tin covers which aid in the cooling of your engine. The ones which go below the pushrod tubes and hide that exhaust pipe. :cherry:
