Follow up on this cursed repair...
So far so good. I slathered some JB weld on the new lift channel around the spot welds as a precaution. There's still a drag somewhere in the system, because the window does not have the zippy action of the passenger side with all of its original equipment. I checked all points of contact for obvious signs of friction, felt channels, window centered, regulator greased, etc.
But it is smooth enough for all of the aggravation. Thanks all for your expertise.
