Something tells me you plan on keeping this car longer than intended...

Have you spent a night in a Real Westfalia Bed yet? Pull off a long highway drive and you have a foot warmer all ready to

Interestingly enough, a lot of Manny Diaz Tree Farm stuff is in an area formerly called Naranja down here. Must be a connection somehow, but I fail to see it.

Story of my life . . . :bom:

I never did name my cars until this VW career. Now that I (temporarily) have three buses, names makes it easier to refer to them.

I have been using Gates 7/16" fuel line 30R7 (that says not for fuel injected lines) for the low pressure 10mm hose that is hard to come by. A little larger so it actually slides on nicely.

Ironically it is the same diameter that I use to get the spark plugs started in the hole nice and straight with out stripping.

Aannd, 24 hours later, this Naranja Westy has an additional 124 miles of insane GA 400 traffic with hurried Chevy Impalas swerving into me and a dump truck spraying gravel and chipping this last original VW/Audi windshield. Drove to Dallas Georgia at the drop of a hat, did not care if the fuel filter would clog up or the pump pack it in, I had to get there with my last $100.00. And what did I get for my last $100.00? A new old stock Leistritz muffler. The amusing popcorn backfiring days are numbered . . .

If I had to buy food or a NOS Liestritz muffler, I would go hungry. They install so easily, you'll have plenty of time to listen to a stomach growl instead of fighting it for hours and hours and hours.

Believe it or not, I get great satisfaction out of assembling these exhaust systems. Two years ago, I was intimidated completely by them-today they are a breeze. When you know that you can go under the bus and that all of the bolts and nuts can be removed or tightened easily because they have all been renewed with copper nuts and fresh gaskets...that is a very good feeling. When I first got my bus, we had to cut every single one of them off with a dremel or 4" grinder. Miserable.

Any recommendation for a good exhaust gasket-to-flange sealer?

I enjoy Permatex 81878 "Ultra Copper" because it is O2 sensor safe, (about once a decade I shove a bung in the tailpipe,) AND it nets me 50* of extra protection. I have found that several products will work, and the most important part is following the dang instructions on how long to let it "skin" for before assembling, then installing loosely, THEN torquing down. The time frame is important for good results in my experience. (This is actually true for most chemicals; the manufacturers did the work for us!)

First, by reflection, which is noblest;
second, by immitation, which is easiest;
and third, by experience, which is bitterest. -Confucius
