Say what you will about the current state of VW, you can't deny they have some of the best marketing out there and some of the best ads in history.

Doyle Dane & Bernbach ads, yes.

Marketing "integrity" came at OUR expense in many cases.

Some days, I like Volkswagenwerk (Tennessee auto workers), other days I hate 'em (suing ME for brand dilution).

Seriously? You've been sued by VWoA for brand dilution?

I totally agree. I got into a heated match with my dad, (who lights high-end car commercials for a living,) about how car commercials all look the same. You know, how you can just tell it's a car commercial without even seeing an automobile? He's tired of the lackluster work getting put out, (rightfully so,) but then VoA dropped this bomb on us. For a bit I even stopped feeling guilty for funding the modern corporate arm of VW with my '09 sedan.

Between that one and the "Last Wishes" video, I've been quite the reminiscent mess tonight.

Your example is right on the knife edge for me. Subaru went right over the edge with what was once a very nice ad (she's always your little girl) to their cloyingly sentimental heart-jerker-come-maudlin embarrassments (they lived).

Volkswagen did a crisp funny ad with the Darth Vader kid, but I do not want corporate goals (selling stuff) walking all over what it is to be human. Then we will have absolutely nothing left to distinguish us as independent creatures from the insidious invasion of marketing.
