new family member

Post by weisswurst » Mon Jan 13, 2014 10:30 am

Hello All! life has been good since my first visit from Colin and we have a new member of the family...
I met a fellow VW guy who was looking for a free resort stay in Miami with his wife and new baby and agreed to sell me one from his collection and flat tow it with some custom tow bars I help him fabricate over phone and email.
So as of now........ =D>
Another Canadian oldtimer has moved to Hollywood Florida to retire with us and his name is OKA DOKA :flower:
He is a bit rusty but not as bad as I feared and he came complete with a 90's jetta 1.9TD transplant.
(thankfully the non electronic model with no computer stuff to go wrong)
I even got a spare identical used engine in the back of the Doka's bed (thanks to the friendly border control officers) :salute:
Got my Florida title today from a really nice Caribbean DMV lady who said she grew up seeing them back home but haven't seen one since she moved here, she inspected it stamped it "passed" an posed for a pic when we were done!

He seats six with factory seatbelts intact (thank goodness) with bucket for the driver, a double passenger bench and a 3 seat bench behind the inside wall in the crew cab. Here are a few pics for all to enjoy! If anyone wants to see interior shots before I yank out and clean lemme know!
Colin? when is your next trip to Florida?!?? :cyclopsani:
Jeff

I'll be down when we do the spring Miami run.
I am so jealous.
I hate myself for not being a millionaire who saves VWs.
Man, what a find!

Millionaire?? :blackeye: hardly! I just have a cool wife (obviously since 3 Vanagondiesels later she's still around) I just really enjoy the hunt for the rare and fun!
and by the way I had to part with my camping customized jeep commanche 4x4 4.0 pickup that I bought with my brother in 92 to finance this baby! (not as a hard decision as a thought it would be since I'm pretty much done with gassers for my needs and I found the perfect person to take her off my hands and bring her back to daily service)

I am going to bring this doka back to the workforce with a resto that will make him not a show vehicle
but a clean improved functional daily fun driver that has a job.
(Jeff's beer tasting service logo on the side maybe..)

BTW my new friend from the North said he is swimming in dokas where he is and want's to tow one down every summer as he enjoys running from the cold as you do Colin! :sunny:

SO! the offer is out! Who wants the next one? Speak up boys!

Oh yes and 4 hours welding last night a new better removable "RV style" flat tow bracket to the rails
on each side of the spare tire compartment. when you pull the lower pins it all comes off
and the bracket will be hidden under the bumper.

Ahhh, I get it now, my apologies my sensei Colin! From what I read here since I found this forum
you ARE a millionaire (in friends) and you've saved quite a few VW's over the years =D> , so sounds like you are to me! How does that saying go? "be careful what you wish for?"

and update for Gypsie, messed with the oil pump yesterday with friends and 8 beers, 2 diet cokes and a bottle of water the Doka started up and pulled into the garage under his own power! albeit there seems to be a serious lack of oil pressure that we are looking into this weekend. Still really good new as it's healthier than I thought.
-Happy Jeff in Florida

here is a pic of the bed which I'm not sure I will straighten the dents maybe just give it a nice bedliner spray
I'm still deciding...
