Itinerant Air-Cooled

Taking the fan shroud off a two liter I broke the bottom left bolt off. This am Mike Boell, through persistence, finally worked the stud free. I had tried heat and drilling and an eazy out, to no avail. He combined drilling, heat, and persistent tapping with a hammer and different drifts and It finally came free. The damage was even less than I'd hoped. I'll try just using the hole with no modification.

Meaning that you will put a stud in the hole, then the fan shroud can fit on the stud at assembly time.

A) make the stud slightly shallower than its three siblings
B) make the lower right side stud slightly shallower, as well.

(now you will be able to remove the shroud with the exhaust system installed if you have to do flaps/oil cooler seals/etc, in the future)

C) use anti-seize on all four fan shroud washers/nuts

Maybe I'm being a little dense here. "Make the stud a little shallower". Don't turn the stud in as far as the others?
Just now went and looked at the engine in the garage and I think it means turn the stud deeper so that when pulling the lower part of the shroud off the is clearance to get it off.
So I should leave just enough threads to get the nuts on securely?

I use bolts on the lower ones, like an Vanagon 2liter has. Makes it even easier to do cooler seals and such.

Now there is an idea. Anything to make future operations easier.
