Meet Morrison...1985 Westfalia
Hey guys...Sold my 72 Rivi/Westy a couple months ago and got a call last week about this 76 bus that I had inquired on 8 years ago. It's rough, but everything is there and fairly original. Gonna try to get it going on the cheap, so I guess I'm gonna be learning FI systems now. Glad to be back in a bus!

Re: Back in a beater bus
Got it running today. Exhaust and oil leaks galore. Here is a short video taken from my phone:

Re: Back in a beater bus
The plan is to get it mechanically in order and just have a regional beater camper. This bus has been abused, but wants to survive a little while.
The guy I got it from bought it over 10 years ago and could never get it running well enough to drive(there's been 3 miles put on it since the PPO signed the title to the PO).
Once the systems are sorted and the leaks addressed, this thing will live again. I got it with the intention of parting to make some quick cash, but I think it wants to live on awhile.

Just when you think you are out, you get pulled in again!

Why'd you sell the Rivi? Did your wife who painted it kick your butt for doing so?

Re: Back in a beater bus
No, it was a mutual decision. We sold it to pay some bills and take the baby for a trip out west. I really planned on being through with them for awhile, then the phone rang on this one.chitwnvw wrote:Why'd you sell the Rivi? Did your wife who painted it kick your butt for doing so?

Re: Back in a beater bus
You two did good work, I could see you guys rehabilitating buses as a sideline. Were you able to turn a profit? That seems to be the problem with resto work, you don't seem to get out what you put in...not to mention the time.

Re: Back in a beater bus
Thanks man, that was a nice bus and an exception to the rule of rusty buses here. Finding something worth putting effort into is getting to be a real challenge. This 76 is roachy, but it was dirt cheap. If things go bad, the sum of the parts will keep me above water.chitwnvw wrote:You two did good work, I could see you guys rehabilitating buses as a sideline. Were you able to turn a profit? Profit?...not so much. If your time and sweat count for zero, maybe. The new owner was thrilled to find a non-rusty bus for a square deal with a ton of spares.
