Yeah, the shims are in place. Looked at them closely (considering) during valve lash check and not seeing any thing abnormal. Anyhow I will monitor very closely. I've already racked 60+ miles since last lash check.

And the question was, are they the nice full-surface-area square shims, or are they slightly loose or small round washers . . . :cyclopsani: ??

Yes, they are the larger square washers.

My bad Colin, I grabbed the wrong lash check number on cylinder 1 the previous check. It should have been .006 for the exhaust. I caught it when I was recording my lash check this morning. I just finished another lash check (131 miles from previous) and got the following:

1- Intake -.006 / Exhaust - .006

2- Intake - .006 / Exhaust - .006

3- Intake - .006 / Exhaust - .006

4- Intake - .006L / Exhaust - .007

Geeze! I have been sleepless for days! Got snappy as a result, and got sent to the dog house! Got a citation for no smoke detector in a domocile! Declared bankruptcy because i couldn't pay the fine! My life is ruined! And now I find that #1 exhaust is OK?

My thoughts exactly...quite a monkey off ones back #-o A bit off topic considering I have 40mm Webers (no vacuum ports) what would be your next choice of distributor?

You dare not ask me that one. I do not spew about individual engine parameters without having driven it.
I like individual coil packs on each spark plug.

Me neither. I love my points and condensor and oil-filled OEM coil on the VW engine, and I love the coil-on-plug system on the BMW, and the Lexus, whatever were they thinking? dual distributor with eight pages of shop manual on how to run the spark plug wires, with two HEI units buried in the bowels of wiring and pipes and vacuum hoses with a crank and cam sensor set-up just to fire some plugs, ach. Oh, and I touched it too . . .

My, that seems like an awful lot of work just to change out spark plug wires. :joker:

I know, right? See, I turned to page 12,768 in the manual where it said to pull off the cam covers, and then I thought I had just turned the page, right? but later I realized about 50 pages had stuck together?

400 miles since previous lash check:

1 - Intake - .006 / Exhaust - .006

2 - Intake - .006 / Exhaust - .006

3 - Intake - .008 / Exhaust - .005

4 - Intake - .006 /Exhaust - .006

Approximately 1700+ miles since build

Another check this time 250 miles from previous:

1- Intake-.006L / Exhaust-.006

2- Intake-.006 / Exhaust- .006

3- Intake-.006 / Exhaust- .006

4- Intake-.006 / Exhaust- .006

Also did a check/synch of the 40 IDF webers with a synchrometer. 1, 2 and 4 read 5.5 on the snail and cylinder 3 reads 5. 1/2 point difference no worries given it's feeding the brake vacuum. Will be driving it up to Vancouver BC today.
