69 Squareback

If you will allow me one more Type 3 post:

My wife's daily driver is an automatic 69 Squareback. She has driven it for over a year without complaint about its outward appearance. Well, its time has come and it is at the body shop now. We went to visit it today and I took a few pictures. When it went in, the plan was just to mask windows and lights before spraying. As you will see, the body man decided that wasn't good enough; the doors are off and windows are out.

His sign isn't much, but his work is great.

Yes it has the dealer AC vents.

When it is done, no more red hinges. :D

We have several NOS parts we have been saving to put on once it is painted. I can't wait to have Mary rolling in a car that looks as good as she does. :D

That is a good looking car up close. What color is the exterior/interior going to be?

Thanks Colin. The exterior will be Anthracite with a Pearl white top. Interior will be
red from my 68 Square.

What exterior colors did VW offer with the red interior?

As far as I can find it was Black or White, but Anthracite is the color that should have a red interior. :headbang:

Looking forward to seeing it. With chrome trim or "cal" style?

Trim is good.

Just so you know I am not a complete Stach Natzee, I did change the interior from factory dark blue to off-white with a nice grey loop carpeting . . . :cyclopsani:

It seems like an eternity since I took the Squareback to the body shop. (it was late January) It finally came home.
I still have to have the headliner and windows installed. At this point I must admit that I went with the Cal-look rubber after the buffer ate the window trim. Here are a few pictures of the homecoming.

True dat. I'm getting older and my bank account is getting drained, but I have some VWs to keep me busy and happy. :thumbleft:

I'm very happy with the color combo and more importantly, my wife is happy with it. This is her daily driver.

Ok, time for some pictures. We took the Squareback down to Florida with us for the Bug Jam week and got most of it put back together.
The interior is now red and I found a better rear bumper at the swap meet at Bug Jam.
Image

Wow! Look at that headliner.

Image

My assembly crew. (not much, but it is all I could get. )

Image

Loving the red interior.

A friend came over to play.

Nice looking Squareback. Thanks for posting pics. I'll be trolling your thread now ;) I have never worked on one of these and am unfamiliar with most of it and trying to figure out what's missing and what the PO hacked in has me going buggy. (No pun intended)
