Bought a Bug yesterday.
Bought a '77 Standard Beetle yesterday. It's a basket case, with no engine and semi taken apart by a 16 year old. I have the OG fenders and decklid and trunk, most of the light fixtures, etc... It's been in a garage from '94 - '02, then in a basement till yesterday. Still has rust, drivers pan, all four corners under fender. But behind the quarter windows is solid, kinda rare for New England. I'm just gonna pop rivet, drill screw and tack weld some hack repairs then, seam seal the heck out of it. Gonna do a rat ride look with it. Instead of flat black with red wheels and such. like everybody is doing. I want to go with a red oxide primer color and a rusty chrome patina. Except I'm gonna redo all the brakes, go through the front beam, sway bar front and rear. 185/ 75 15 tires all the way around and put the fire breathing 2276 cc engine from my buggy in it. Can you say ultimate sleeper.
Any way some things came with it that I'm gonna be selling that I have no need for. You guys get first dibs before it goes up on Ebay. Any one jonesing for retro '80's.
Four Chevy bolt pattern Crager SS rims in fair? shape.
1 Fiber Jet industries Mulholland fronted, Porsche whale tailed rear ended FUGLY Baja kind of kit. Never installed. Four fenders, front apron, trunk lid, sun visor, running boards, and the afore mentioned whale tail. Uses square headlites and tail lites. Rear apron has to be removed as well as deck lid according to some photos I have from the PO.
My car was never cut just partially disassembled, I also got new, never used, Hurst style shifter and extruded aluminum running boards. I am keeping these.
I hope this is not construed as an add, I guess it is. But it's more like giving your buddies a shot at something before it really goes on the block.

Sounds like the kid should have paid you to wake him up from his nightmare! Glad you saved it from the hideous whale-tailed life it sounds like it may have been destined to live.
Good luck with your new project!

68-69 were my favorite years. My #1 favorite dream car would actually be a 68-69 SS 396 4 speed metallic blue.Amskeptic wrote:They would look nice on a metallic blue 1970 Chevelle SS. . .vdubyah73 wrote:This what the rims look like. they are 14"
Figured out today I don't have the air dam under the chin. Kinda foolish if'n ya ask me anyway. You'd have the back end cut up for going off road and a front end that couldn't hop a driveway apron.
