The worst part is, we're maybe not even as well off as serfs. At least they held the upper classes to a kind of contract, which was wielded more/less justly according to time and place. Here, the wealthy corporate elite answer for nothing, whatever. See: Goldman Sachs.

To be fair, according to their CEO, they're "doing God's work". For that all they get is a few measly billion dollars and absolute indemnity? Hardly seems just...

We have groovier gadgets than in them olden days, iPhone twittering and such, wallowing complacent in privilege allowed us at the moment. The greatest atrocities perpetuated against humanity have been done by people in power "doing God's work". Still.
