I had almost completely forgotten about Smarties until I was reminded about their sweet deliciousness by this thread. I lived outside of Toronto for two years, and I loved those darn things! Why, oh why, aren't they sold in the US?

Are you kidding me!? On the theory that you are what you eat, I consumed smarties by the bagful throughout my MA and PhD time... buying them? Target. I routinely get 2lb bags for 99 cents after Halloween.

You all are sorely testing me. This isn't even General Forum material. This is Old Lady Hair Salon Gossip.

Fine. How 'bout this ~

Canada is an unacknowledged vassal state to the US.

Heh... in two posts you'll be moving this to "Free Speech" for sure...

Because you Mare-cans don't know what REAL Smarties are! Everywhere in the world except for the USA, Smarties are small ovoids of chocolate, coated in a hard candy shell.
Sound familiar? Nope, not the same as M&Ms (okay, superficially the same, but Smarties are much better).

See here for more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smarties

Oh yes, also:
  • Poutine
  • Nanaimo Bars
  • Maudite
'81 Canadian Westfalia (2.0L, manual), now Californiated
