Update on the CEO who made $70,000 minimum wage for all his employees
by Jen Hayden

In early 2015, Dan Price, the founder of Gravity Systems—a credit card processing company based in Washington—shocked his employees by announcing he was raising his company's minimum wage to $70,000 per year. The story went viral and not surprisingly, conservatives like Rush Limbaugh howled "socialism!"

"Anyway, he's not tying this to anything other than employment. He's not tying it to performance. He's not tying it to sales. This is pure, unadulterated socialism, which has never worked. That's why I hope this company is a case study in MBA programs on how socialism does not work, because it's gonna fail. My guess is that just like when Solyndra went south, there will not be a story on Gravity Payments succumbing to gravity and going under." Rush Limbaugh

So how is Gravity doing these days? Incredible:

Revenue is growing at twice the rate it was before Chief Executive Dan Price made his announcement this spring, according to a report on Inc.com. Profits have doubled. Customer retention is up, despite some who left because they disagreed with the decision or feared service would suffer. (Price said he’d make up the extra cost by cutting his own $1.1 million pay.)

Not only has employee turnover been extremely low, they've attracted new talent:
Gravity was inundated with résumés -- 4,500 in the first week alone -- including one from a high-powered 52-year-old Yahoo executive named Tammi Kroll, who was so inspired by Price that she quit her job and in September went to work for Gravity at what she insisted would be an 80-85 percent pay cut. "I spent many years chasing the money," she says. "Now I'm looking for something fun and meaningful."
That's incredible growth. Stay tuned and we'll follow to see if Gravity can continue their rise in years to come.

Not much of a global warming believer myself. The earth works on a cycle. We have only be keeping recordes of weather for roughly 100 years give or take. Not nearly long enough to prove what they claim. Volcanoes alone spew more harmful crap in the air then we humans can even phathom. They have for milliions if not billions of years yet here we are alive and kicking.

How's the bus running Geoff? You ended up putting new piston/cylinders on it...what did you go with? I'm now jsut over 15,000 miles on my AA biral 96's and they are running very well with little to no oil consumption. My trip last year to southern California and back yielded just under 2.3qt of oil use. Total miles for the trip 2,925 miles.

Our life expectancy today is nearly 50% longer than just 100 years ago. Our biological advances in medicine and understanding of the human condition can GREATLY skew your argument. Yes the planet has been changing, we get that, but we need to be able to combat the change effectively. Can the human body adapt to a hotter climate? You betcha. But what will happen when our ocean waters rise and flood some of the most important locations in our modern world? Still think we can just ignore that one and adapt? Let's work together in making sure we're ready for it to happen naturally, and NOT accelerating the process.

The so called scientists are as clueless and at odds with each other over the info than anyone. Not to mention the money involved. There is no smoking gun evidence to suggest we'll be swimming any time soon...or later for that matter.

Man made pollution creates PREVENTABLE damage in our bodies weather you like it or not.

Here's research done by The University of Southern California published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa1414123

Higher pollution levels negatively impact our ability to breathe. As pollutants were reduced due to laws regulating environmental impact, children's breathing issues were cut by better than 50%.

This is preventable. If you don't care about it, don't get in our way. (I don't mean you directly, I mean anyone who feels like it's unimportant.)

Air alone isn't the only deciding factor in how we breathe. The food we eat, water we drink, chemical exposure, genetic predisposition etc... all play critical roles. Now is that to say clean air isn't good? No. But let's not lose sleep over it.

I put the AA version of the 914 94mm pistons with the slight dish (10cc) as they have the longer skirts. They are working great and the bus is running really well again. No oil leaks, installed the 78-79 air control valves so no more gas tank boiling in hot weather (over 95F).

This is a lot of cross-talk. I was most interested to hear of people's reactions to this audacious experiment in pay scales.

Sad to hear about the domestic issues. His brother sued him long before the media coverage; wasn't it just a family ordeal involving an unequal splitting of the company after the brother got bitter.

In 2019, Gravity processed 10B in payments. I think Rush was wrong.
