The Nuclear Option Has Launched

Post by Amskeptic » Thu Nov 21, 2013 4:10 pm

What do you think?
This rule change means that federal judge nominees and executive-office appointments can advance to confirmation votes by a simple majority of senators, rather than the 60-vote supermajority that has long been required to end debate and proceed to an up-or-down majority vote to confirm or reject the nomination. The change does not apply to Supreme Court nominations.

There have been 168 filibusters against federal judge nominees in the history of the United States.
Half of them have occurred under the Obama Administration.

I wonder if there's some magic bit we weren't told about that makes it so Republicans can't use it themselves when they get back in the driver's seat.

They plan to. When Mitch McConnell threatened as much, "and it will be sooner than they think," he said, Harry Reid's reply was, "of course, it is only fair." Well, Republicans do NOT understand that this was a step dedicated to the "common good" on the Democrat majority's part, to get the nation's business out from under gridlock.

I am still amazed and appalled that of the 168 total filibusters of federal court nominees since the founding of our Nation, HALF have occurred during the Obama Administration. There is no talking that down. I hope We the People inform our fellow citizens in time for the elections that it is past time to clean out the ancient cobwebs and trolls and gnarled "what we haVE heyah, is a usurper from Kenya" old stumps, with their attendant new wet green chips that did not fall far enough away from those musty rotted old stumps from decades past, and get back to the true work of making America for its people instead of its psychopathic corporate charters.

Dividing a country against itself to fight the oppressive fed is what the national socialist party did back in WWII.
It is a well known fact that people vote their anger, anger is easy to direct.
Humans are stupid.

Now relate this broad brush stroke of yours to the topic at hand.
I see a group of Senators who are trying to get the wheels revolving in Washington once more, even if it (omg) means that they will be similarly limited if they lose power in the future.
